Is Doctor Dread crazy? We think NOT. But he did recognize the sonic similarities in the sounds emanating from the theremin and the dub effects King Tubby was creating with Jamaican dub in the late seventies and eighties. So he bought a rare 1929 theremin and then added the theremin's unique sounds to classic dub tracks from Israel Vibration, Culture, Peter Broggs (even Bob Dylan and Thievery Corporation) among others to record a rare full-length CD known as “Theremin In Dub”. The outstanding artwork includes a popup in the gatefold of the CD along with extensive liner notes regarding the history of the theremin and its brilliant inventor Leon Theremin written by theremin expert Andrew Baron. These out-of-this-world recordings truly showcase how the theremin and dub music have so much in common that it is no wonder that others are now copying the Doctor’s original exploration into this dub territory.
